Watch Tom Hardy in Child 44 trailer

A new trailer has been released for Soviet Russian set drama Child 44, seeing both Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman don Russian accents. Child 44 is based on the best-selling 2008 book of the same name by British writer Tom Rob Smith, and is actually the first in a trilogy.
Hardy plays disgraced MGB agent, who refused to denounce his wife as traitor. Along with General Nesterov (Oldman), he must investigate a series of child murders that have been sweeping the nation.
Ridley Scott was first attached when the film was announced in 2009, but it was later ed on to Swedish director Daniel Espinosa, who directed the Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds film, Safe House.
The trailer itself looks appropriately gritty given the source material, and Hardy manages to pull off a convincing Russian accent, at least for the duration of the trailer. It certainly looks like it will be a good watch, and with Ridley Scott staying on as producer, one wonders if some of his ideas have been kept on board.
Child 44 has a strong cast, with Noomi Rapace, and Vincent Cassel also starring alongside Hardy and Oldman. With the UK release date set at 17th April, there’s not too long to wait for fans of the book to see if this lives up to expectations.
