Never underestimate a mother’s wrath. Signature Entertainment have sent us over the UK Trailer for gripping Mexican drama La Civil. No Narcos or corruption will stop a mother reuniting with a her daughter.

The thrilling and compelling drama is the feature debut for Romanian director Teodora Ana Mihai. Until now have been in shorts and documentaries, this film also impressively debuted at this year’s Cannes Un Certain Regard.

The film is set in Northern Mexico, Cielo (Arcelia Ramìrez, Veronica), teenage daughter is kidnapped. After paying any ransoms her girl is not returned. With no help coming from the Police takes the matter into her own hands, taking her on a dangerous path with drug cartels and corruption.

This is inspired by a true story, a story that plays too often in real life Mexico. It’s a film that will be thought provoking, dramatic very profound. The film has garnered some fantastic reviews making it worth and a feature debut premiering at Cannes, impressive stuff.

La Civil is a thrilling, compelling and thought-provoking drama, based on true events, from director Teodora Ana Mihai. Cielo’s (Arcelia Ramìrez, Veronica) teenage daughter, Laura, is kidnapped in Northern Mexico. Despite paying several ransoms, Laura is not returned. When the authorities offer no in the search, Cielo takes matters into her own hands, turning from housewife into a vengeful militant. Her relentless search puts her in the crosshairs of cartel and dubious officials alike… La Civil is a heart-breaking and important look at a country in crisis ruled by narco-violence and corruption.

The film also stars Juan Daniel García Treviño (I’m No Longer Here), Álvaro Guerrero (Amores Perros) and Jorge A. Jimenez (Narcos: Mexico).

La Civil will be released in the UK and Ireland on Digital Platforms from 14th March 2022.
