Watch The Epic UK Trailer For The Promised Land Starring Mads Mikkelsen

Kongens Land - Zentropa - Nikolaj Arcel
Icon Film Distribution have released the UK trailer for the epic historical Danish drama The Promised Land starring Mads Mikkelsen.
The film is directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). Entitled Bastarden in it’s native Denmark, described as an ‘Nordic Western’, Mikkelsen stars as impoverished Captain Ludvig Kahlen. Sent to take over a heath land in the name of the king, in a land that looks impossible to cultivate. Soon as the captain gets there, the Kings plans become clearer.
The Danes have great hope in the film, that it will be there entry for the next Oscars and the Best International Film Category. This looks very intense and ferocious…
In 1755, the impoverished Captain Ludvig Kahlen sets out to conquer the uninhabitable Danish heath in the name of the King. But the sole ruler of the area, the merciless Frederik de Schinkel, who believes the land belongs to him, swears revenge when the maid Ann Barbara and her serf husband escape for refuge with Kahlen.
From BAFTA nominated writer and director Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), this epic film stars BAFTA nominee Mads Mikkelsen (The Hunt, Another Round), Amanda Collin (Raised by Wolves), Simon Bennebjerg (Borgen), Kristine Kujath Thorp (Sick of Myself) and Gustav Lindh (The Northman).
This powerful Nordic western had its World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where it was in competition for the coveted Golden Lion. It was also selected for TIFF and Telluride Film Festival in 2023, earning strong reviews. The Promised Land has now been chosen as Denmark’s entry for Best International Feature at the 2024 Oscars, with Mikkelsen currently in contention for ‘European Actor’ at the European Film Awards.
The film also stars Amanda Collin, Simon Bennebjerg, Kristine Kujath Thorp, and Gustav Lindh.
The Promised Land will be released in selected UK cinemas from 2nd February 2024. I would not at all be surprised if this goes to Icon Film Distribution‘s streaming service later the same month.
