Watch Matteo Garrone’s Oscar Nominated Lo Capitano UK Trailer

This week saw the 2024 Oscar nominations announced. One of the nominees for Best International Film was Matteo Garrone‘s Lo Capitano, today Altitude Films have released the UK Trailer.

The film stars Seydou Sarr and Mustapha Fall.

Io Capitano tells the story of the adventurous journey of Seydou and Moussa, two young men who leave Dakar to make their way to Europe. A contemporary Odyssey through the dangers and beauty of the desert, the shock of the detention centres in Libya and the perils of the sea as they cling to their hopes for a better life.

IO CAPITANO tells the story Seydou and Moussa, two Senegalese teenagers who leave Dakar to travel to Europe where they believe opportunities await. On a journey neither could have imagined, the boys face the dangers and the beauty of the desert, the shock of detention centres in Libya, and the perils of the sea in their pursuit of a better life, in an epic story that offers a deeply human perspective on the migrant crisis.

Directed by two-time BAFTA-nominee Matteo Garrone (Gomorrah, Tale of Tales), IO CAPITANO has been nominated for Best International Feature at the Academy Awards, and won the Silver Lion and Best Young Actor Awards at Venice Film Festival.

Lo Capitano will be released in UK and Irish Cinemas from 5th April. Before that date, the film will make it’s Scottish premiere at Glasgow Film Festival on 29th February. [More info and book tickets]
