With a film like the name of this one you would expect to see a superhero movie but when you look closely to the premise of this film Viggo is an ‘superhero’ to his kids, but so is any parent in the eyes of their children?

In Captain Fantastic we go deep into the forests of the Pacific Northwest, isolated from society, a devoted father (Viggo Mortensen) dedicates his life to transforming his six young children into extraordinary adults. But when a tragedy strikes the family, they are forced to leave this self created paradise and begin a journey into the outside world that challenges his idea of what it means to be a parent and brings into question everything he’s taught them.

Ahead of it’s European premier at Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival (May 17) we get a first look at the film that premièred earlier at Sundance Film Festival. We are big fans of Mortensen who will be known for his roles is Lord Of The Rings, Eastern Promises, The Road all fantastic films in their own right. Many have said the actor himself has ‘fallen of the grid’ but we disagree. The actor is renowned for choosing his roles carefully and the past few years he has been starring in  more independent and World Cinema films, this film will bring him closer to mainstream audiences.

This film reminds us a little of The Mosquito Coast (Harrison Ford) when visions clash when people try to tell you how to be a parent and how to do it “correctly”.But parents when things get tense we will always question ourselves on our parenting but that’s how we get better for doing our best for those who are important, our children.

Captain Fantastic will be released by Entertainment One in UK from 9th September. The film also stars Frank Langella, Kathryn Hahn, Steve Zahn, George MacKay, Samantha Isler, Annalise Basso, Nicholas Hamilton, Shree Crooks, Charlie Shotwell, Ann Dowd, Erin Moriarty and Missi Pyle.
