These Are The Projects Luca Guadagnino Hopes To Work On At Warner Bros

Luca Guadagnino

Filmmaker Luca Guadagnino has revealed two projects he hopes to work on at Warner Bros.

The Challengers director told Cura Magazine that he’s trying to revive the never-made Stanley Kubrick film Aryan Papers, a Holocaust drama set in Poland during its Nazi occupation. It follows two Jewish family who avoid persecution by assuming Catholic identities.

The film would be based on the book Wartime Lies by Louis Begley.

Guadagnino’s second project would be tackling an adaptation of Thomas Mann’s Buddenbrooks. He is currently co-writing a script with sca Manieri.

He said: “I read [it] when I was 12 and that I have dreamt of making ever since. For 42 years, I have been making it in my mind. I am adapting the script right now with the writer sca Manieri, with whom I wrote ‘We Are Who We Are’. These are very complicated projects. The fact that I could remake ‘Suspiria’ and I could make ‘Queer’ tells me that I am a very lucky man or a very persistent man. I get what I want. If I can manage to make either ‘Buddenbrooks’ or ‘Aryan Papers’, then I can conclude my life very satisfied.”

He explained both would be career landmarks if he could get them off the ground and that he had been working with Warner Bros. on Aryan Papers for “a long time” with the blessing of the Kubrick estate and family.
