A woman reflects in The Imposters (Reel2Reel Films)

What appears to be a familiar along the lines of, Single White Female, expands into an alternate view of seemingly spontaneous sensual and emotional understanding.

Mainly due to a good cast with inner expressive realism, The Imposters is unique, super interesting, deceptive, simmering storytelling.

Highly regarded tutor Maya (Marie Everett) is in big trouble, formal complaints from more than one student involving romantic entanglements are derailing her career and private life with a highly upset partner Anna (Tegan Mordt).

We see clips by one particular student, video flashbacks that start fun and get serious, quintessential to the mood of proceedings.

On a run through the local park, Maya randomly meets Hattie (an excellent Chynna Walker) sitting on a bench taking a break. They instantly hit it off with Hattie oversharing whilst Maya listens at the same time as being somewhat attracted to the wired approach.

On a whim, a night of intimacy leads to Hattie inviting new ‘friend’ Maya to Spain to escape the serious career allegations and enjoy the evocative holiday environment.

Metaphorically this goes in multiple directions. I’m not prepared to say much, careful not to spoil the juxtaposition force which occurs next. Anxiety will enhance your senses watching what unfolds between the pair in the lovely backdrop of Spanish locales.

Subtle cinematography is by Nicholas Winter, also writer, director, producer.

Hattie appears dodgy from the start, marginally due to acting prowess delivered by Chynna Walker, a realistic off the chain ive aggressive, tormenting role.

ing her fondly from Robin Hood The Rebellion (2018) as Maid Marion, an expressive Marie Everett, equally solid within her flawed persona of Maya.

Despite losing steam leading to a thought provoking finale, the weird vibe of this unhinged thriller gets under your skin, indeed a top notch indie.
