Later this month we’ll finale get to see Jordan Peele‘s Get Out follow up, US. 2018 Ari Aster’s Hereditary was a horror to be reckon with and Summer 2019 we will see his follow up, Midsommar arrives.

Whilst his directorial feature debut might be hard to pin point an exact inspiration, his latest terror looks a little easier. For those who love their folk horror especially a certain Wicker Man, eyes will be wide opened.

Described by Aster himself as “Scandinavian folk horror film” and “apocalyptic breakup movie.” Don’t let the hazy Summer setting deceive your eyes, this is no summer of love. It’s also a different type of beast from Hereditary, nether less one that looks equally terrifying and creepy.

A24 Films has released the film’s First Trailer, that may just live up to the Hype once again.

Midsommar will star Florence Pugh who is currently shinning in Fighting With My Family as WWE Diva Paige. She plays a young women who goes to Sweden with her boyfriend (Jack Reynor). The pair head to a Mid-Summer festival held in a friends rural home village. What starts as an idyllic break slowly unravels in to a violent bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.

This is no midsummer’s night dream for all involved. Having Pugh in the film especially with her current success may help the success of the film. She is certainly turning into a Tour De Force and an actor with a diverse range of films and talents.

The above Trailer is only the American version which A24 Films will be releasing stateside on 3rd August 2019. Here in the UK and Ireland it will be 16th August 2019 by EFD Films.

The film also stars William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgran, Archie Madekwe, Ellora Torchia, and Will Poulter.
