Sunday Short Theatre – The Nipple Whisperer (2021)

It’s been quiet at The Peoples Movies HQ hence the lack of posting the past few days. Today is Easter Sunday we fancied something a little surreal even peculiar. This week’s Sunday Short Theatre certainly ticks the boxes with Jan Van Dyck‘s The Nipple Whisperer.
If your going to make a film feature length or short there’s one must cast, Dennis Lavant (Holy Motors) is your man. Lavant is Maurice Sanders the Nipple Whisperer who is brought out of retirement thanks to model and his former muse Doris who is ill.
Seeing is believing here when it comes to absurdity, however under the multilayers of the narrative is something emotional. The cast also treat the film with much sensitivity and off course their performances are fantastic too. This is one of those films due to emotional impact that will keep you thinking about it after it’s 15 minute running time is over. Those responses will be different for everyone and even more if you have had personal experience with the illness Doris has.
What we can’t forget and the title of the short confirms this, The Nipple Whisperer has an element of satire. Not forgetting it’s also a love story which has empowerment?
Maurice Sanders has a gift. He’s a nipple whisperer. Once he was known as “Magic Sandy”. But that was years ago, before Doris, a famous model and Sander’s muse, fell ill. Now, after more than a decade, Doris wants to meet Maurice again.
The film also stars Wim Willaert, Elke Shari Van Den Broeck, Wendy Dresner, and Sameh Alaa.
