Scream 7 Bringing Back Fan Favourite Despite Their Death In Previous Film

Scream 7 adds another legacy character that was presumed dead

They are never really dead, are they? After news that both Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley were returning for Scream 7, it seems another former cast member – one that is very dead is returning.

Deadline is reporting that none other than David Arquette, who plays Deputy Dewey Riley, is coming back for the new film. For those who know their Scream lore, he was definitively killed off in 2022’s Scream by Ghostface but it seems the death might not have stuck. That said, there’s nothing specific about his casting, and it could be that he appears in some flashbacks. We will await the film.

Arquette’s character is a huge fan favorite, having appeared in all the films since the original up to 2022’s reboot/sequel. He is also the brother of Ros McGowan’s Tatum from the original film and married Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) as well.

Cox returns for the new film alongside Neve Campbell, who returns as Sidney Prescott after not appearing in Scream VI, as well as the returning Mason Gooding and Jasmine Savoy Brown as Chad Meeks-Martin and Mindy Meeks-Martin respectively.

Kevin Williamson, who created the franchise as writer alongside director Wes Craven, is directing the film.

Scream 7 is set for release on February 27th, 2026.
