RED DAWN Remake, 'Remakes' The Chinese Into North Korean
One of the movies to suffer through MGM’s recent financial crisis was the remake of the 1980’s RED DAWN about a bunch of kids who pick up weapons and defend America against the invasion of Russians & Cubans. The new version was remade with The Chinese as the new badguys But according to the LA Times it looks like those Chinese are becoming North Korean! The movie has now went back into post production and everything Chinese like the flags, banners will now be digitally changed as will the dialogue to match the story. The main reason for the change is to do with the international buying market and potential buyers and 20th century want to make sure the movie will be bought by potential Chinese buyers.
DMG Entertainment ‘s Dan Mintz says if left in its current form could find the movie would receive alot of unwelcomed reception, this is what he said:
“….there would have been a real backlash. It’s like being invited to a dinner party and insulting the host all night long. There’s no way to look good…. The film itself was not a smart move,”
The changes are costing around $1million and DMG were hesitant to make changes but Dan Tripp the movies producer does say the movie will be ‘smarter and Scarier’, though we may never see the movie as it could be shelved if no buyer can be found so this could end up straight to DVD.
The film stars Chris Hemsworth ( THOR), Josh Peck (The Wackness), Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights TV show), Josh Hutcherson( Bridge to Terabithia/Journey to the Center of the Earth), Isabel Lucas (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), Edwin Hodge(Mental), Connor Cruise (Tom Cruise’s son).
