Prime Video Review – The People We Hate At The Wedding (2022)

The People We Hate At The Wedding (2022) out now on Prime Video

Astonishing Allison Janney, pre-Oscar (I, Tonya 2017) was always a breath of fresh unpredictable air is an array of incredible, often underseen films such as, The Oranges (2011) or Away we Go (2009) little has changed since the acceptance speech, her unique career continues.

This better than it should be comedy works entirely due to fantastic timing and delivery by an extremely loose, obviously having fun ensemble.

On-fire Janney impresses with comic timing as Donna, her first marriage to a philandering Frenchman was brief but brought forth a beautiful baby girl.

The matriarch of a family distanced by virtue and choice.

When picture perfect daughter Eloise (Cynthis Addai-Robinson) sends out invitations to her nuptials in England, the estranged clan hastily get-together ready to cause havoc abroad.

Making weddings part of a movie scenario, be it the main event or just a side plot, anything can happen from sadness to happiness and whatever semantics in between. They also can bring out the worst in people or rejuvenate old disputes.

Alice (Kristen Bell) and Paul (Ben Platt) are the closest siblings of the bunch, they confide in each other and remain close during the trip.

Donna remains joyous although in denial her family are full of animosity with past altercations and incidences.
The wedding is sure to bring everyone together in delight, right?

In fact, the actual wedding is hardly seen, this is all about the family build up.

Consistent hilarious moments throughout, a wild hen’s night (bachelorette party) is a focus. particularly everything Alice is involved in evokes grimacing.

She makes a random friend on the flight over whom remains on the scene throughout, bailing her out of trouble and supplying comforting sexcapades.

Bell outstandingly real as always either through history of heartbreak or overindulging or just being naturally cute.

Tony Goldwyn (Ghost) Randall Park (WandaVision) and chic Lizzy Caplan (Mean Girls) all cameo.

Flourishing adaptation of popular book by Grant Grinder.

I’m harsh when reviewing comedies but don’t believe it is a dead genre, just much less so-called humorous entertainment has genuinely made me laugh in earnest this past decade.

However, The People We Hate At The Wedding, did edge that smile a lot wider than normal. A comedy that delivers.
