Philip Seymour Hoffman Is Hopelessly Inquisitive In Trailer 2 For THE MASTER

Last month we finally enjoyed the first footage from Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER which was all about Joaquin Phoenix but tonight its the master himself Lancaster Dodd better known as Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the limelight with the film’s second Trailer.Hoffman plays Dodd  a World War 2 veteran who is haunted by his experiences who decides to start his own religion in the 1950’s a Hopelessly Inquisitive man.

This is our first look at the titular character who is charismatic in nature as well very creepy at the same time. The trailer really shows how menacing , charming  Dodd showing off how easy he manipulates his followers. The more damaged his followers the easier they fall under his spell so its no wonder Phoenix’s character Freddie  becomes a follower been damaged  left right and centre that damaged Dodd makes him his right hand man. We also get our look at Dodd’s wife played by Amy Adams who is chatting to Phoenix you wonder if she’s damaged goods or as cold hearted as Dodds.

No one is clear on how much this film is based on L Ron Hubbard’s Scientology cult but it looks like the cult religion is there benchmark instead of making up a total fictional cult religion  especially if  a certain Tom Cruise is been shown a rough cut of the film! Still no confirmed release date in UK for The Master however in USA its out October 12th, the film also stars  Laura Dern, David Warshofsky, Rami Malek, Jesse Plemons, Madisen Beaty, Joshua Close and Fiona Dourif.
