NXT TakeOver: In Your House 2020 Review

An In Your House show in 2020? Yes, you have read that correctly! Here is a review for the NXT show last night which was yet another solid showing from WWE’s developmental brand.

Shotzi Blackheart, Tegan Nox & Mia Yim def. Dakota Kai, Candice La Rae & Raquel Gonzalez

A great opening match to start the show. Absolutely the right choice to set the pace, it’s matches like this that make you optimistic for the women of NXT. All women showcased a great display of what they are capable of.

Despite a lot going on in this match, it worked perfectly and added to the momentum which was exhilarating at time. Stand out of the match was Shotzi Blackheart who has been impressive during her first few months on NXT TV.

One of the best opening matches on a TakeOver show so far in its history. A lot of fun to watch, a bright future for the women’s division in NXT.

Finn Balor def. Damien Priest

If Damien Priest needed the rub of anyone in NXT, it was Finn Balor. While it might have been a filler feud at best, the match delivered. Balor made Priest look great and got him over and will go a long way in elevating Priest for sure despite not winning.

The match was great, both men got in plenty and looked great respectively. As far as storytelling goes the match nailed it, as the young new comer put up a strong fight but it was the veteran who was victorious.

We have to wonder what is next for both superstars, but we can only be excited for whatever they have to come.

Keith Lee def. Johnny Gargano to retain NXT North American Championship

Nice touch by Keith Lee for wearing Black Lives Matter attire at the show. Not a bad match at all, probably a good fit on the show as the pace of the night needed a breather after a quick fire start. A pace to the rhythm.

The match itself was good and hopefully won’t be the final time these guys face off. The feud itself has some more left it would seem.

It wont hurt to see more of Lee in NXT, even knowing the future that he seemingly has in the company, especially after the year he has been having.

Adam Cole def. Velveteen Dream to retain NXT Championship

The rise in cinematic style matches for WWE has been a blessing. This was no different and long may it continue even once fans can return to arenas.

It was no Firefly Fun House or Boneyard match by any means. But this still delivered and was certainly something that NXT can use in the future. Despite being a little slow at some points, the overall match was okay.

As for now, we definitely wonder who will challenge Cole next and does is the Dream’s main roster call-up imminent?

Karrion Kross def. Tomasso Ciampa

Karrion Kross looks like the real deal. His entrance along with Scarlett Bordeaux immediately makes him stand out and look like a star. This match was a great first TakeOver showing for Kross.

Kross looked great throughout this match and huge props to Ciampa for making him look like a star. The NXT veteran made Kross look amazing, and Kross did not disappoint at all.

A short but sweet match in which you cannot empathise how awesome Kross and Bordeaux looked here.

Io Shirai def. Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley to win NXT Women’s Championship

Io Shirai is the new NXT Women’s Champion, it has finally happened. After having an amazing 12 months since her heel turn, she without doubt deserves her moment.

A great way to end a solid show, as the title change was somewhat unexpected for so many of us. The match itself was great and solidified the capabilities of NXT and what it has been all about.

Interesting finish to the match with Ripley taking the pin. But according to Triple H that moment will be significant in a few months down the line.
