Netflix UK Teaming Up with New Cinema Partners For Awards Season

The Irishman (2019)

As new streaming sites emerge and prices rise, the big players like Netflix need to expand. One of those ways to expand is giving some of their Original films a theatrical run. With us slowly moving into the Awards Season, the streaming giants have formed a new partnership with Altitude Films.

According to Screen Daily, the Independent film distributor  will help distribute  Netflix Original films.  Those titles will be those films in the running for awards. If we go by the word from many of those films, they will have many.

Netflix currently have an exclusive agreement with Arthouse/World Cinema distributor-Exhibitor Curzon Artificial Eye. There cinemas have  given films such as Outlaw King,  and Oscar winning Roma limited cinema runs. That agreement will still continue as will the films get a run in associated cinemas. With Altitude Films coming onboard, they can now distribute to more independent Cinemas such as Everyman.  the streaming giants will offer these venues anything from a limited run  right up to several weeks.

The films the agreement hope to distribute further are: Martin Scorsese’s The Laundromat this Friday (September 27/ October 18).

However, if your hoping Vue, Odeon, Cineworld and Picturehouse will show these films, you’ll be disappointed. Those chains have declined to screen any film as they not adhere to the full 16-week theatrical window.

Altitude currently work with Sky Cinema with their own Original films. This Friday 27th September will see the release of Hotel Mumbai. Netflix haven’t confirmed what cinemas will be showing their films, so you’ll have stay glued to your local cinema listings for details.
