“Mum Who Died?” Watch UK Trailer For Shiva Baby

SHIVA BABY

Last month we revealed boutique distributor/ streaming channel MUBI will release indie comedy Shiva Baby in the UK and Ireland. Today the channel have revealed the first UK Trailer and new Poster ahead of it’s release in a few weeks.

The film is directed by Emma Seligman starring Rachel Sennott. The film was one of the most popular films on the festival circuit of 2020, standing out at Toronto. The film is a darkly playful comedy of unease about a young bisexual woman (Sennott) grappling with tradition and independence, At a Jewish funeral service with her parents, a college student runs into her sugar daddy.

I know film critics and cinephiles don’t always agree, this is one of the rare occasions they are united. Our reviews editor Scott J.Davis has seen the film saying Emma Seligman has “made one of the funniest, sharpest and most tense comedies of the last few years“. You can find the link to Scott’s review below the trailer…

A darkly playful comedy of unease about a young bisexual woman grappling with tradition and independence, Shiva Baby tells the story of Danielle (Rachel Sennott), a college student on the verge of graduating who is faced with a series of increasingly awkward and humiliating encounters at a climactic day-long shiva, a Jewish gathering of friends and family during a time of mourning.

The film also stars Molly Gordon (Booksmart), Polly Draper (Billions, The Good Wife), Fred Melamed (WandaVision, The Morning Show, A Serious Man) and Dianna Agron (Berlin, I Love You, Glee). The music is composed by the eclectic composer and multi-instrumentalist Ariel Marx (Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer).
