MUBI Set Spanish Oscar Entry Alcarràs UK Release Date

Boutique global distribution and streaming service MUBI, have announced the UK and Irish release date for Alcarràs. Carla Simon’s film is set to kick off there 2023 schedule after making it’s UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival last month.

The drama won the Golden Bear award at this year’s Berlinale and is nominated at the European Film Awards. Alcarràs is also set to be Spain’s Oscar entry at 2023 awards. A poignant story of a family being forced of their farm.

Carla Simón’s second feature, following the international success of Summer 1993 (2017) is inspired by her own farming family from Alcarràs in the Catalonian region of Spain. All of the extended Solé family, young and old alike, are played by non-professional actors speaking the Catalan dialect specific to the area.

As far as they can , the Solé family have spent every summer picking the peaches from their orchard in Alcarràs, a small village in Spain. But this year’s crop could be their last,as they face eviction. The new plans for the land include cutting down the peach trees and installing solar s, which causes a rift within the large tight-knit family. For the first time, they face an uncertain future and risk losing more than their home.

Alcarràs will be released in the UK and Irish cinemas from 6th January 2023. Launching on MUBI later in 2023.
