Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths Gets A First Trailer

An emotional woman on a mobile (Hard Truths 2025)

Been a long time since we’ve had a Mike Leigh film and head of it’s world premiere in 2 days, Studiocanal release Hard Truths First UK Trailer.

If you are wondering what that last film was, it was Peterloo which came out in 2018. The latest film once again exploring the lives of working class people, last one a period piece.

Hard Truths is set in London, Leigh’s new film explores family relationships in the post-pandemic world and stars Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Secrets & Lies, Without a Trace) and Michele Austin (Secrets & Lies, Another Year) who reunite with Leigh, after earlier collaborations on stage and screen.

Jean-Baptiste and Leigh are no strangers to each other, last time was nearly 28 years ago with Secrets & Lies (released 1996). His latest film looks to have that dark humour and the hard knock lives of his characters. The common people as Pulp would call us can be a tricky balance to make the situation feel genuinely real. Mike Leigh has been telling our stories since 1970’s and it looks and emotional ride…

Sisters Pansy and Chantal are chalk and cheese, but their close bond is the foundation that their extended family is built upon. Lately, life has proven too much for Pansy, her anguish manifests in relentless criticism of the world, leaving her husband Curtley, son Moses and Chantal walking on eggshells. Things come to a head over the course of a Mother’s Day weekend. (source BFI)

The film also stars David Webber, Tuwaine Barrett, Ani Nelson, Sophia Brown, and Jonathan Livingstone.

Studiocanal UK haven’t announced an exact UK and Irish release date for Hard Truths apart from ‘ early 2025‘. It will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 6th September, New York Film Festival on 5th October and BFI London Film Festival on 14th October.
