Mia Hansen-Løve’s Bergman Island Gets A UK Trailer

If you ever need inspiration, sometimes you got to go to the heart what you love. After a year of touring the film festivals MUBI have finally released the Official UK Trailer (and Posters) for Mia Hansen-Løve‘s Bergman Island.
The bittersweet romantic drama set on the breathtaking island of Fårö, where revered filmmaker Ingmar Bergman lived and worked for over forty years. It stars Tim Roth and Vicky Krieps as Tony and Chris who are filmmakers looking for inspiration for their next film project. Both have writers block and they head to Swedish island of Fårö which was once the home of Ingmar Bergman. It’s here reality and fiction cross paths forcing Chris to reflect on life.
This film in a way is a semi autobiographical film for Hansen-Løve whom Bergman was a film hero to her. I watched the film at this year’s Glasgow Film Festival, it played like a love letter to her hero. His slow moving reflective drama tropes that explore what inspires us…
Chris (Vicky Krieps) and Tony (Tim Roth) are filmmakers, hoping to find inspiration for their next films as they retreat to the Swedish island to work on their screenplays. Meanwhile Amy (Mia Wasikowska) and Joseph (Anders Danielsen Lie), who were once lovers, are staying on Fårö to celebrate the wedding of their friend. As the summer es by, the lines between reality and fiction become increasingly blurred as reminders of Bergman’s legacy playfully influence both stories. Laced with characteristically semi-autobiographical elements, Hansen-Løve’s latest is a mischievous and elegant contemplation of love, memory and the journey of the creative process.
The film also stars Mia Wasikowska, Anders Danielsen Lie, Joel Spira, and Clara Strauch.
Bergman Island will be released in UK and Irish Cinemas from 3rd June before heading to MUBI on 22nd July.
