Listen The Chronicle Podcast Episode 23 – Eileen and Wonka

We’re back after a few weeks off, behold Episode 023 of The Chronicle Film Podcast. The latest episode myself and Clotilde review Eileen and Wonka.
The first review is 1960’s thriller Eileen starring Thomasin McKenzie and Anne Hathaway with William Oldroyd (Lady McBeth) directing. Inspired by Neo Noirs with a slice of Douglas Sirk Melodrama, we find ourselves in the year 1964, Massachusetts. We meet a young niave secretary Eileen (McKenzie) works the local Juvenile prison. Her world is turned upside down by the arrival of Rebecca (Hathaway), the prison’s new psychiatrist. Enchanted in every way, the pair strike up a friendship. Things take a drastic turn when Rebecca reveals a dark secret.
Our Final review we step into the world of imagination with Wonka starring Timothee Chalamet and a host of great names. This time Roald Dahl‘s classic book steps back in time to see how the young Willy Wonka becomes the legendary chocolate maker. Off course it’s not all plane sailing could it be ‘death by chocolate’?
