Lakeith Stansfield To Star In Candyman Remake?

Sorry To Bother You (2018)

(l to r.) Tessa Thompson as Detroit and Lakeith Stanfield as Cassius Green star in director Boots Riley's SORRY TO BOTHER YOU, an Annapurna Pictures release.

When certain filmmakers climb on board certain projects, it becomes a little obvious who they may go for to star in it. When Jordan Peele came on board Nia DaCosta‘s (Little Woods) ‘Spiritual sequel’ for 1992 Horror classic Candyman, its going to have someone from Get Out. According to reports that Lakeith Stansfield (Get Out, Sorry To Bother You) is in talks to star in this version.

According to SuperBroMovies, the actor is in talks to play the lead role in the film. if chosen he’ll play Anthony, who is being described as a socially pronounced artist in Chicago who researches the urban legend of Candyman. After investigating the killer’s last known whereabouts, strange killings begin to occur around Anthony. People start to suspect he is the killer.

Tony Todd originally played the titular legendary character who you could summon by saying his name five times in a mirror. Your left to wonder if Anthony killed those people or was it Candyman himself? You never truly learn did those victims also call him? Anthony is however a new character but the report does state his character will be very similar the one Virginia Marsden played in the original film.

Peele/ DaCosta are determined to make their own distinctive version of the film. Making a socially relevant film and returning to the neighbourhood where the Urban Legend began. It was a landmark film in black representation in horror. “spiritual sequel,” with a story that “returns to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.”

It’s been quite a 12 months for Lakeith. The breakout star from Fox Atlanta, a small role in Peele’s Get Out, he played also in The Girl in the Spider’s Web. He will be know for the main role in Sorry To Bother You and will be next seen in ruin Johnson’s Knives Out.

We’re not always the biggest fans of remakes/reboots, Jordan Peele may have only made one film and what a film he made. This time he’s only producer but enough to get very curious about this. Candyman reboot is set for an Summer 2020 release.
