Jon Bernthal ’s Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey

Deadline is reporting that the cast of Christopher Nolan’s new film has swelled again with news that Daredevil star Jon Bernthal has ed the cast today. His new film is an adaptation of The Odyssey and has already added a stellar array of talent for it.

In addition to Bernthal, the film stars Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron. Universal revealed recently that Nolan’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning Oppenheimer is an adaptation of the epic poem composed by Homer around the 8th century BCE.

“Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology,” the studio said at the time. “The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to Imax film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”

The ancient Greek poem is one of the foundational texts of Western literature. It tells the story of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War, exploring themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning and the struggle against divine will. The tale includes iconic stories like Odysseus’ encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens and the witch-goddess Circe, culminating in a reunion with his wife Penelope.

The film is set to start shooting in February and is Universal’s second collaboration with the filmmaker after the box-office, critical and awards success of Oppenheimer.

Bernthal will next be seen in Daredevil: Born Again, returning as Frank Castle aka The Punisher alongside Charlie Cox’s hero.
