The Hollywood Reporter reports that Guy Ritchie has signed on to direct Road House 2 for Amazon MGM Studios, the sequel to their hit 2024 film starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

Gyllenhaal will be back, reprising his role as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who takes on the job of bouncer at a bar in the Florida Keys. Will Beall, writer of Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Aquaman, is on script duties for the second film. Gyllenhaal will also produce with Josh McLaughlin via the duo’s Nine Stories Productions banner along with Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Altas Entertainment.

The remake was a huge success for Amazon on their Prime Video platform, with the first directed by Edge of Tomorrow and The Bourne Identity helmer Doug Liman. The filmmaker didn’t see eye to eye with the studio over the release of the first film, stating that it was agreed that the film would have a cinema release, but instead went straight to streaming. The film ended up with over 80 million viewers worldwide in just eight weeks.

This will mark the second team-up for Ritchie and Gyllenhaal after they collaborated on Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, another Amazon film.

The filmmaker has his new film, Fountain of Youth, due to release this month, and its currently working on two films: In The Grey and Wife and Dog.
