From Indiana Jones To David Bowie Glasgow Film Festival Names Its Special Events

From Raiders Of The Lost Ark to The Man Who Fell To Earth, this morning the Glasgow Film Festival has unveiled it’s 2016 events programme. Over it’s short history GFF has been gradually building a fast reputation as one of UK’s top film festivals not just for film but for it’s pop-up cinema events too.

Over the years has seen the festival screen Jaws in hull of Glasgow’s Tall Ship, Joan Of Arc in the city’s Cathedral, this year it’s Raiders of The Lost Ark. Heading back to festival venue favourite Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum the film will take place in a venue Indiana Jones himself would be proud of.A museum crammed full of ancient artefacts seems like the perfect place to action-archaeologist and Indy or at t least his stuntman: Vic Armstrong, Guinness Book of Records-certified most prolific stunt performer in the world, who has doubled for Harrison Ford in almost all of his stunts, introduces a thirty-fifth anniversary screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark. A live action/ adventure presentation will precede the screening, so do look out for the boulders…

In 2016 they’re working with a number of the city’s most famous venues for the first time, including The Barrowland Ballroom, Tramway, and Glasgow Planetarium, to screen new works and classic films celebrating significant anniversaries. Later the same night as Raiders of The Lost Ark grab a glass of Chianti and say hello to Clarice as cult horror thriller Silence Of The Lambs will creep you out in a 25th anniversary late night screening.

One of Glasgow’s iconic music venues The Glasgow Barrowlands Ballroom becomes the latest venue to Glasgow Film Festival pop-up cinema venue. Screening the UK premiere of  Paul Fegan’s Where You’re Meant To Be which follows former Arab Strap’s Aidan Moffat  on a trip round Scotland and its folk song history.The special screening will be accompanied by live music.

Over at the city’s Science Centre Daivid Bowie‘s cult The Man Who Fell To Earth will get an special 40th Anniversary screening following a guided tour through the solar system and special visual treats on their incredible 360° full dome screen.

Punk fans take note Tramway Theatre on the southside which is currently hosting the Turner Prize exhibition will be taken over by the festival for 3 days.This is Now: Film and Video After Punk (1978-85), archival films films by artists including John Maybury, Grayson Perry, Cordelia Swann and Jill Westwood. Many have been out of print for over 30 years, with the exhibition a night celebrating the spirit of punk and New Wave music.

2016 Glasgow Film Festival is moulding itself another fantastic festival with Youth Festival(12-15th February) which will we see premieres for The Witch and What Marnie Was There the last ever Studio Ghibli the highlights of that festival. The full line up will be announced just over 4 weeks time with UK’s third largest film festival taking place from 17th until 28th February 2016.
