Film Review – Sasquatch Sunset (2024)

Following the hugely successful global film festival run of this obscure, melodramatic, absurdist comedy following a family of Sasquatches on a journey through murky forests of North America is now available on physical media with over three hours of fabulous, UK exclusive bonus content.
Over the course of a year we see the quartet of furry creatures embarking on a profoundly fruitatious journey sure to raise an eyebrow whilst keeping most viewers intrigued.
Unrecognisable actors within the detailed costuming are intricate to their characters particular traits. Indie darlings, Jesse Eisenberg (Nathan Zellner (The Curse – series) and Christophe Zajac-Derek (Twin Peaks – series) play with utmost conviction, male, female, alpha male and child, respectively.
The fantastical, wild story will be poignant to some, offensive to others but entertaining without doubt causing some sideways looks or dropped jaws, trust me on that, particularly during a critical, personal achievement concerning ‘female’.
Arguably the greatest Bigfoot story ever told, although the more family friendly, Harry and the Hendersons (1987) is an equally excellent, offbeat Yeti fable.
Let’s not forget found footage mystery Willow Creek (2013) that successfully swings the legend on its head, then retro grindhouse feature Legend of Boggy Creek (1972) pushes the folklore to the limit.
I’m quite sure Sasquatch Sunset will find a growing extraordinary audience over time, potentially turning it into a cult favourite. An evocative soundtrack by The Octopus Project injects. The mix of modernism intruding nature and simplistic ways of life are explored to alarming effect, ingeniously told through an open minded, unique screenplay by co-director David Zellner.
Now available to rent or buy on digital platforms or add the ever collectable Blu Ray to your library. Sasquatch Sunset is best viewed with a beverage or three amongst friends, followed by a nourishing night cap enjoying the many behind the scenes extras.
