Film Review – Look To The Light (2024)

Turning out to be a topical counterpoint unravelling dark-side truths and dangers of rookie fame, Look to the Light, proposes various phases of life affirming directions that threaten to derail stability for an ambitious young man.
Already a minor insta-celebrity, the life of an influencer is explored with rollercoaster detail focussing on a young trendsetter with wide-eyed dreams of hope, glory and fame.
Coming off the hot global success of Barbie, rising to the occasion here in a much more dramatic performance, Charlie Goddard plays Eddie.
Keen to be a star which is fast tracked into motion when accepted onto reality show, Love on the Rocks.
Whilst his family is excited about the appointment on television, the incredibly delightful although wary girlfriend Lauren, not so much happy or excited as the show is all about match-making.
Making a frighteningly impressive splash into deep emotional romantic moments and high drama through certain situations dealing with Eddie’s egotistic changes, relative newcomer Lily Blunsom-Washbrook, is sensational.
Young love and the desperate need for social media fame is a deadly mix explored here with dynamic results, an intriguing movie with various factions of interest from all directions.
Romance is a struggle under normal circumstances but when reality shows are involved, look out, doom impending, especially when Lauren has her own announcement to make.
Naysayers to fake fame will be undoubtedly jumping for joy in the final stages of this incredible indie film, spoiler free of course, may I recommend to stay alert for sudden directional changes towards a motivated thought provoking finale.
Eddie is manipulative, Lauren has a soft heart, the audience will decide long before the movie is over if these two, eventual opposites, should remain together. Easy to believe chemistry between leads Charlie Goddard and Lily Blunsom-Washbrook keep the mystery alive, superior acting a huge benefit.
Rounding off further surprises throughout is renowned vocalist, Kele Le Roc fantastic as Mickie and bubbly, Jessica Leigh Slatter, beaming in a small role as Rochelle. Well put together relationship drama, interesting from start to finish.
