Feature – Best Mullets In Sports

It’s all business on the top and party in the back. Kenny Powers from Eastbound and Down obviously knew that when he decided to rock the mullet hairstyle. To celebrate the third season of coming out on Blu-ray and DVD on October 8th, we’ve decided to recognize the best mullets that have ever graced a sporting event and at the end we’ll crown the ‘Best Mullet in Sports History.’
Andre Agassi
His flowing mullet bounced around the tennis court in the 1990s but now the truth finally comes out. In Agassi’s 2009 autobiography ‘Open,’ the tennis star its to wearing a wig in order to hide his baldness. Disqualified for lack of mullet authenticity.
Wayne Gretzky
Gertzky may have been the greatest hockey player of all time by winning the Stanley Cup four times, but his real winning moment was choosing the mullet. Canadians idolize his hockey skills, but we idolize his mullet .
Barry Venison
Venison was an English footballer during the 80s, also known as the prime mullet years. His lovely blonde locks graced UK television sets everywhere. After his football career ended, Venison accepted a job at Sky Sports, but sadly his mullet didn’t make the cut.
Chris Waddle
“I once had a penalty shootout with Rudi Voller to decide who had the best mullet,” proclaims Waddle proudly. “I won and was awarded Mullet of the Year.”
But will this English footballer win our award for best mullet? Keep reading to find out!
Rudi Voller
He won the FIFA World Cup in 1990 as apart of the German international football team, but Voller’s biggest accomplishment was keeping his curly mullet intact on the field at all times.
Jaromir Jagr
Hockey players are known for favouring the mullet as a hairstyle, but Jagr gets extra points for styling. Turns out we’re not the only ones who’ve noticed the soft, tousled locks. Jagr’s mullet has its own Facebook page with 921 likes.
Randy Johnson
The power of the mullet helped Johnson win 300 games as the pitcher for the Giants. This proves the mullet is more than an impressive hairstyle but a good luck charm too.
And now I have to give the spotlight to a couple of ladies who prove that the mullet is not just for men.
Jennifer Capriati
So young, so innocent, so much mullet! The former tennis champion entered this photo for a ‘Faces in the Crowd’ entry for Sports Illustrated. There’s no way a mullet like that could ever blend into a crowd.
Martina Navratilova
This former Czech tennis player had a wicked serve on the court and a wicked mullet to go with it.
And now for what you’ve all been waiting for! The winner for ‘Best Mullet in Sports History’ is…
Kenny Powers
It’s no big surprise that Eastbound and Down’s very own Kenny Powers wins our award for ‘Best Mullet in Sports History.’ Always so full and curly, his mullet must be the envy of men everywhere. And for season three Power’s mullet will go where it’s never gone before… Buy the third season of Eastbound and Down on Blu-ray and DVD October 8th to find out!
