Ethan Hawke Is Nikola Telsa In ‘Telsa’ Watch Trailer

Today it would have been Nikola Telsa’s birthday, he would have been 164 year old. To some people he was one of those great inventors who never got the credit he deserved. Now next month he gets a new Biopic and Ethan Hawke plays the inventor in Telsa and IFC have released the Official Trailer.
The man was born under a thunderstorm and was one of those misunderstood people. The film promises to give a contemporary look on his story, re-imaged for the era he was alive. Kyle MacLachlan plays his biggest rival Thomas Eidson who was the populist choice for the time.
This will probably get judged against last year’s The Current War, however the slight different approach from your usual biopic might just make this one a better choice.
Brilliant, visionary Nikola Tesla (Ethan Hawke) fights an uphill battle to bring his revolutionary electrical system to fruition, then faces thornier challenges with his new system for worldwide wireless energy. The film tracks Tesla’s uneasy interactions with his fellow inventor Thomas Edison (Kyle MacLachlan) and his patron George Westinghouse (Jim Gaffigan). Another thread traces Tesla’s sidewinding courtship of financial titan J.P. Morgan (Donnie Keshawarz), whose daughter Anne (Eve Hewson) takes a more than casual interest in the inventor. Anne analyzes and presents the story as it unfolds, offering a distinctly modern voice to this scientific period drama which, like its subject, defies convention.
The film also stars Eve Hewson, Jim Gaffigan, Hannah Gross, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The film is directed by Michael Almereyda (Marjorie Prime).
Telsa doesn’t have a UK or Irish release date. In the USA IFC Films will release it Stateside on 21st August in Cinemas and VOD.
(Update – It seems Telsa will be released in The UK and Ireland on VOD from 28th September).
