Empires Die In First Trailer For Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis

Empires will die in the epic first teaser trailer for Francis Ford Coppola‘s Megalopolis.
This coming Thursday, The Godfather filmmaker’s long time coming ion project will grace a cinema screen. When the film makes it’s world premiere at Cannes Film Festival, part of the competition strand.
This first look clip gives us a indication of the scope and size of what we can expect. The director himself calling it his best work in a long time, it certainly looks surreal. Utopian is a word that could describe the vision of this sci-fi thriller, inspired by the Roman Empire in it’s rise and fall.
Megalopolis stars Adam Driver as genius visionary Cesar who seeks that idealistic utopian future. He does find competition from Mayor Franklyn (Esposito), whose rather stay in the corrupt society the world they currently live in.

MEGALOPOLIS is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.
The cast for this one is BIG. They include Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman.
Megalopolis doesn’t have a confirmed UK and Irish release date. Entertainment Film Distributors (EFD Films) will release the film in the UK, for now the world premiere will be at Cannes Film Festival on 16th May.
