Disney have released the official Trailer for Young Woman And The Sea starring Daisy Ridley. Defying the odds becoming first woman to swim the English channel.

The Star Wars actor is exchanging the lightsabre for a set a swimming goggles. In Young Woman And The Sea we get the extraordinary true story of Trudy Ederle, the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel. It may only be 21 miles, it’s cold water a busy shipping channel even back in 1920s the period Trudy swam.

The film is directed by Joachim Rønning who directed several Pirates Of The Caribbean films and behind the Tron: Ares. This may not be one of the big blockbuster Disney specials, more humanistic drama that inspire. This plays like a psychological endurance test for our swimmer, looks great…

Daisy Ridley stars as the accomplished swimmer who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905. Through the steadfast of her older sister and ive trainers, she overcame adversity and the animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the staggering achievement – a 21-mile trek from to England. “Young Woman and the Sea,” which also stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler, is directed by Joachim Rønning and written by Jeff Nathanson, based on the book “Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World” by Glenn Stout. The producers are Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Jeff Nathanson, with John G. Scotti, Daisy Ridley, and Joachim Rønning serving as executive producers.

The rest of the cast includes Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler. Young Woman and the Sea will open in select UK and Irish cinemas from 31st May.
