Cosmic Horror & Racism Clash In Lovecraft Country Trailer

After the brutal killing of George Floyd by the Police, racism is systematic, not just in the U.S, but worldwide. The timing of the Trailer for horror series Lovecraft Country timing might be spot on. As it tackles American racial injustice in the 1950’s that clashes with cosmic horror.

The series has JJ Abrams and Jordan Peele are onboard as executive producers. Based on a book by Matt Ruff and stars Courtney Vance, Michael Kenneth Williams,Jonathan Majors and Jurnee Smollett.

We find ourselves in Jim Crow era American Deep South, as a young man Atticus (Majors) searches for his missing father (Williams). He’s ed by his friend Letitia(Smollett) and his uncle George (Vance)on this dangerous road trip. On this journey they unearth an ‘birthright’ interlaced with racism and unimaginable cosmic horror.

Nothing more terrifying at this moment in human history is racism. Alot of this series will resonate with the events in USA. Thriller seems to be the main genre focus, but throw in some HP Lovecraft inspiration we have something intriguing and relevant on the cards.

HBO’s new drama series, LOVECRAFT COUNTRY, based on the 2016 novel by Matt Ruff of the same name, debuts this August. The series follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he s up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams). This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.

This Trailer is promoting the American launch of Lovecraft Country on HBO which will be August. No word on the UK release or what channel, good chance it might be Sky Atlantic.
