COPPELION

Coppelion [rating=3]

Synopsis

In 2016, a meltdown of a nuclear power plant creates a big catastrophe in Tokyo. 20 years later, the city has become a ghost town due to the high levels of radiation. From that area a distress signal is received. The Self Defense forces dispatch three girls from the special unit Coppelion to search for survivors. But why aren’t they wearing any protection against radiation?

Review

It was a good anime, but I was expecting more from it.
For me it lacked a few key items. The plot I felt was a bit weak, but the characters were very good and there was room there for a bit more work on the storyline. But then again this is just me of course. For my tastes it was missing something; it didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat.

Awarding of the Stars

Stars awarded for: Story, Characters, Fighting, Animation, and Extras

Animation

Animation I’ll award a full star. It was very good for the Anime. It wasn’t as celar and crisp as the likes of Fairy Tail, or Sword Art Online. It had a more drawn look like Attack on Titan which really suited the nuclear fallout theme of the anime.

Story

The story as I’ve said above lacked. I’ll repeat again that this is only for me anyway. There wasn’t enough twist or the wasn’t enough… tension. It’s a difficult thing to try to explain what exactly was missing, but it definitely was missing that extra bit. It was good, I didn’t want to turn it off in the middle of the episode but it didn’t leave me wanting to go desperately onto the next episode. If I wasn’t reviewing it then it would have been shelved. So a half star, I’d only go as far as no stars if I want to turn it off halfway through an episode.

Characters

The characters were brilliant. Mostly a female main cast. (Is it still a cast if it’s animation, ensemble? I’ll stick with cast) There were of course our generic line up of types of leads. However even though there were those samey kinds of characters, they were really done well, and the voice cast were good at the portrayals. A full star for the Characters.

Fighting

The fighting was good and entertaining at the least. It was missing an intensity that you’d find in the likes of Bleach, Baccano and Fairy Tail but even though it isn’t as intense it’s good all the same. Their main purpose is aid not assault which I think is why there isn’t that intensity. The ing characters and the enemies fight better. I’ll give the fighting a full star just because it isn’t the main characters’ jobs to fight.

Extras

The extras fall short once more, maybe I’ve seen too many good extras. Clean opening and closing and a few trailers. A half star at a stretch because there are extras.

Totting up the marks, is 3 stars.

Info

(this is a new thing for me, and I’ll try to keep it into future reviews)

Coppelion is a Manga Entertainment release,
It is rated UK12 — And I also agree with the rating; there isn’t fanservice, however there are a few times when it has been on the nose to be fair, but it’s nothing compared to some fan service I’ve seen.

General Price is about £29.99 or €42.56
Genre is Action, Sci-Fi
The Manga’s Demographic is Seinen so it is intended for a mature male audience.
