Theme park rides come feature films have been common ground for Disney since Pirates Of The Caribbean, which we know has been a success financially but the idea of endless sequel is of course a discussion for another day. Not all theme park films (Haunted Mansion) have been a success however that’s no warrant for Disney as they have just announced Brad Bird‘s mysterious Sci-fi 1952 has now been officially renamed Tomorrowland.

Since the project was announced as well as this was going to be  Brad Bird‘s next film (with Lost co-creator Damien Lindelof ) the buzz for this grew and grew. With only the title of 1952 and a recent tweeted image from Bird & Lindelof of a box tited ‘1952’  full of items which seem to1952-box be the film’s inspiration, the mystery behind the film has been teasing us all perfectly.

As for the film’s new title Tomorrowland it could be a coincidental that the name just happens to be one of the theme parks at Disneyland or simply be a complete bluff to make us think that the film is really about. The scope of the film has certainly expanded with the new title especially as the theme park is Disney’s look into the future, originally was like a ‘Tomorrow’s World’ type theme park containing items we might be using in the future a bit like the classic BBC programme. Even with this park been the home of  Space Mountain and Star Tours I think we can say this film maybe a little more ‘alien’ though a vision of the future from a 1950’s perspective we can’t rule out either.

As Bird and Lindelof come from the school of Pixar and JJ Abrams they will certainly know how to keep secrets of the film close to their chest for a very long time, but the mode of small revelation here and there marketing wise is helping the film’s buzz. What we do know is gorgeous George himself George Clooney is confirmed to star in Tomorrowland  and the film will be with us just in time for Christmas 2014 on 19th December 2014 .

Here’s the short press statement from Disney…

The Walt Disney Studios has announced that its live-action release previously known as 1952 will be titled Tomorrowland. The film will be released domestically on December 19, 2014. George Clooney (The Descendants) is set to star.

Tomorrowland is written by Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird from a concept by Lindelof and Jeff Jensen. Lindelof (Star Trek, Lost, Prometheus) will produce and Bird (The Incredibles, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) will produce and direct.
