Anime Review -Fairy Tail The Movie: Phoenix Priestess

Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess was filled with action from the start.

The story comes after Season 3. I had watched season one and two, and even though it doesn’t continue on from the storyline, some of the characters, and their powers were new to me.

The plot focuses around Eclair, who, even though she has amnesia she knows she has to take her Phoenix stone to a wizard named Kalard. The Fairy Tail wizards decide to help her and the plot unfolds as an assassination attempt is taken on Eclair by a member of the Carbuncle guild, hired by Duke Cream ruler of the neighbouring country Veronica. Duke Cream wants to become immortal by resurrecting the Pheonix and in return the Pheonix will grant him the boon of eternal life.

That being said, the main characters have no change. Lucy uses about 4 keys overall and loses her clothes once. In my opinion even though her power is weak and she is a clutz by nature, she does show powerful emotional strength.

The film didn’t come up to my expectations, the storyline was okay and keeps the viewers attention, but it does need the prequel –which is part of the Bonus Features on the disc.

There were sprinklings of comedy but not as much as the series. The characters we came to know and love face their challenging opponents and overcome them after a humiliating defeat.

I would give the movie 3 stars. There could have been more comedy.

The animation was perfect and crisp, the colours were vivid as all Fairy Tail fans are used to.
As with the series, the action scenes are perfect and we always have full view of the battles our characters have. Each battle is as satisfying as the last.

The bonus features, included the Original Trailer and the US Trailer, along with the textless opening and closing themes, and the prequel featurette; Fairy Tail The First Morning.

I found it disappointing that the prequel was only available in English Subtitle.
