Alicia Vikander Promises a New Look Lara Croft In 2018 Reboot

Tomb Raider

Whether you’re a fan of the best selling gaming franchise or simply still in awe of Angelina Jolie’s iconic performance in the 2001 eponymous film, the large majority of us are familiar with Tomb Raider and still firmly in love with the character’s kick ass antics. With that being said, when we heard that a long overdue reboot was in the pipeline, we couldn’t be happier – Tomb Raider is a franchise which will massively benefit from the advancement in technology and special effects. What’s more, the effortlessly brilliant Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl and Ex Machina) has been cast to take over the mantle from Jolie and on the face of it, this looks like a stroke of genius.

Vikander has recently promised to put her own stamp on the role and the fact that the film focuses on a younger Lara Croft that we’re not used to seeing will only serve to help her on that front. Whilst Jolie came across as self-confident and assured in her role back in the early 2000’s, the reboot will go some way to explaining just how Croft ended up being the badass that we know her as today and will portray a more vulnerable and gritty side to a character who is clearly lacking in direction. The reboot was in part inspired by the 2013 multi-platform Tomb Raider video game which breathed new life into the gaming franchise to the point where Tomb Raider is now competing with Naughty Dog’s Uncharted franchise for the title of best action adventure gaming series.

Despite the fact that Tomb Raider initially found fame as a gaming franchise, it’s fair to say that just like many titles released at the same time as the original game (1996 – yep, it’s been that long!), it hasn’t stood the test of time all that well. The 2013 Tomb Raider multi-platformer has helped bring Tomb Raider to the forefront of fans minds and has also spawned a number of spin-off efforts such as 32 Red’s Tomb Raider slot game, where s can obtain a no deposit bonus from nodeposit.ca – which certainly comes in handy when trying to fight your way through waves of relentless beasts and other enemies. With the gaming franchise successfully transitioning into the modern day, it was only a matter of time before the film franchise followed suit and the signs are there that this will be every bit as successful.

Despite the fact that Jolie was widely praised for her role in the original film and obviously went on to bigger and better things as a result, the actual movies themselves were fairly polarising amongst critics. However, it’s fair to say there’s a decent of hype and expectation surrounding the reboot and whether this is due to the fact that director Roar Uthoag has confirmed that the film will be truer to the actual gaming franchise and will cut out of a lot of the cheesy supernatural stuff we saw in the originals, we certainly can’t wait to see how Tomb Raider once again handles the big screen when it hits cinemas on the 16th March.
