Abel Ferrara’s Padre Pio Starring Shia LaBeouf Gets A UK Trailer

Shia LaBeouf in Padre Pio, watch UK Trailer

The role that ‘saved’ Abel Ferrara‘s latest film.

It’s been a while since LaBeouf was seen on our cinema or TV screens. A lot of controversary has surrounded the former Transformers actor career and private life. The road will be long for the actor with Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis and this one a right path.

This film is a biopic of Catholic Saint Padre Pio and his early years set around the latter days of World War One. At his small Capuchin monastery in Southern Italy, the setting for his charisma and vision that led him on the road to Sainthood.

BAFTA winner Shia LaBeouf (Honey Boy, The Peanut Butter Falcon) gives an unforgettable performance in Padre Pio, the new film from legendary director, Abel Ferrara (Bad Lieutenant, King of New York).

It is the end of World War I and the young Italian soldiers are making their way back to San Giovanni Rotondo, a land of poverty, historic violence and the iron-clad rule of the church and its wealthy landowners. Families are desperate, the men are broken, but victorious. Padre Pio (LaBeouf) also arrives to a remote Capuchin monastery, to begin his ministry evoking an aura of compelling charisma, saintliness, and storied visions of Jesus, Mary and the Devil himself. The eve of the first free election in Italy sets the stage for a historic, and metaphoric massacre, an apocalyptic event, one that changes the course of the world.

The film also stars Cristina Chiriac, Marco Leonardi, Asia Argento, Vincenzo Crea, Luca Lionello, Brando Pacitto, Stella Mastrantonio, and Salvatore Ruocco.

Padre Pio will be released in selected UK and Irish cinemas from 26th January.
